Through spring of 2008 I had very good results with American Goldfinches at nyger seed socks. And then... nothing. And more nothing. And more than a year elapsed with no success despite replacing seed over and over. I eventually threw in the towel earlier this year and washed my hands of this food product and those ever-finicky finches. But a deal on nyjger at my local feed store persuaded me to try again. And a fresh sock and fresh seed went up. It took most of two weeks but the Goldfinches are now using the feeder! I have seen as many as four on the sock (including one dunce who was pecking away at the empty part of the bag. Sheesh!) If I continue to see Goldfinch action I may even put out the
big super-sized sock which a whole mob of finches can use comfortably! But I am also hedging my bets, and a few pounds of seed went into the freezer right away as this stuff dries out all too quickly. The excitement is mounting... will the Goldfinches stick around?
