The photograph at right won't win any awards, but it does highlight a performance change in the Wingscapes BirdCam product I have detected during use these past three weeks. The BirdCam 2.0 definitly employs a more sensitive photometer than its older sibling, the 1.0. I am getting somewhere between 45 and 60 minutes more at each end of the day than compared with one year ago. This picture was taken at an incredible 7:15 AM, only
six minutes after sunrise! At this point in December 2008 I would count myself lucky if the camera would drop out of night mode by 8:30 AM, and generally something closer to 9:00 AM was more likely. Now, these pictures will not necessarily be images of great beauty, but in a practical sense they do show what is going on earlier in the morning, and I suppose with the right software they can be enhanced for better quality. This is astonishing stuff. Way to go, Wingscapes!

Absolutely. One of the most frequent comments we got about the original BirdCam was that it went to "sleep" too early in evening and "awoke" too late in the morning.
We addressed this by calibrating the photo-cell and also adding the flash to the BirdCam 2.0 for night photography.
I've enjoyed using these new cameras to see which birds visit very early in the morning. So far, Red-bellied woodpeckers have the "early bird" award on my feeders.
