You are no doubt thinking: "one fun thing I can do on a honking cold (for Piedmont North Carolina: 20 degrees) December morning is move nest boxes!". And indeed I did this very thing, specifically to relocate my 2007 gift Bird Bottle to its third home in as many years. So up went the ladder and I got busy repositioning this seemingly unwanted nesting space. The only occupant in summer 2009 was a spider. This coming season I will see what happens with a west facing exposure, well concealed by trumpet creeper, close to the house. I decided not to mount the bottle on the house because I didn't find a really satisfactory location either on east or south exposure, at least that I can get to. This could be a good opportunity for a Carolina Wren... We shall see what happens now. And in a few weeks I'll be adding new nest boxes to the fleet and prepping the rest for the nesting season to come.

Third Try on Bird Bottle
