Must Have Been Cold Out There

A pretty good sign that the weather was not necessarily fun for the birds is when skulkers (like this Chipping Sparrow) show up at the feeders. And this past Saturday I photographed them a number of times at a hanging platform. And I can't blame them: the day was raw-- unseasonably cold, overcast, and rainy. That was evidently enough for these guys to take a break from foraging in the underbrush and wolf down some hearty fare at the Cary BirdCam Cafe. I don't get Chippies very much at all at the feeders: so far in 2009 I have picked them up on BirdCam only nine days(!) And these characters are especially picky: even in the dead of winter it is not a lock that they will come by. It was good to see them if for only a little while.
