A few days ago I reported that a Northern Mockingbird had been, in all-to-typical Mocker style, to display aggression towards the larger competitors at the peanut butter feeder. I had an opportunity to watch the doings in the hour before sunset and was amused to see that this junkyard dog Mocker was having to deal with an equally ornery competitor from his own tribe. During the observation period the two Mockingbirds went mano-a-mano a number of times, chasing each other and even engaging in serious dust-ups on the branches of the border trees. I wonder if this activity will give the rest of the bird community access to the feeders: surely if the aggressive Mockers are fighting with themselves they'll be less able to police the feeder station. Well, that would be what I hope for and we'll just see what happens. This is way better than WWE!
