Bad BirdCam Luck in February

The first eleven days of 2010 have been a great disappointment to me, photographically. It seems that I have fallen on every piece of bad luck a BirdCammer can be prey to. Photo counts in that period are very poor compared with past years (247 in 2010 versus 1,244 in 2008 and 1,267 in 2009), and I am getting very few pictures of value. Consider:
(1) I lost three days to low battery performance and owner error. That alone should have knicked my totals by 27% (3 days in 11.)
(2) Half my photos were taken on one day when a hungry squirrel practically lived at a tube feeder.
(3) An aggressive Northern Mockingbird is chasing off other birds. I have heard hawks in the area, so there is the possibility songbirds have temporarily relocated to avoid that menace.
(4) We had two days of appreciable or high wind, which moved the BirdCam's focus away from feeders. Gusts we haven't experienced since Tropical Storm Hannah played havoc with the feeders.
(5) Visitation dropped sharply in the wake of our January 30-31 snowstorm. I am seeing almost no visits at the suet feeders, and some species have not been observed all month, such as Eastern Bluebirds.
So far February 2010 has been a strange month. Certainly things will change in time. But in the short run this is a period of annoyance and frustration. And it is not timely for good data for this year's Great Backyard Bird Count which begins today.

You need more peanut butter.

Denise, you may be right! I think these birds are as crazy for peanut butter as even you are. But no way will I be putting out Reese's for this crowd!
