Great Backyard Bird Count 2010

It is that time of year when tens of thousands of eager bird watchers count their birds and submit reports to the Cornell Lab of Ornithology. Yes, it is The Great Backyard Bird Count and we at Cary BirdCam are contributing data. The organizers are hoping to break the 100,000 location mark in 2010. As you can see in the illustration the Triangle area is a hotbed of reports, and maybe we'll clear ten reporters in northern Cary. The procedure is easy! For as little as 15 minutes through Monday, February 15 you can collect data for this project. The web site above has instructions on how to report data. I'll be taking daily readings through the weekend. The weird Deep South snowstorm (3 inches here!) definitely helped assemble some birds for easy viewing this morning. I'll report my final data with my Tuesday post. Happy counting!
