In contrast to this past winter, when some of the regulars took their time checking in, we've hosted all of the warm weather birds I would expect, and tropical summer hasn't even started. Certainly a lot of this is due to fledgling season, when parents are frantically feeding their young, and my feeders are a convenient gorge-point. In the last few weeks I've notched 21 species on the log, with the seasonal Hummingbirds and Catbirds clearly present, and with the American Goldfinches actually sticking around. In fact, I'm only short Blue Jays, Hairy Woodpeckers, and Red Winged Blackbirds from the list of feeder birds I usually see in the warm months. So we are starting quite strong in 2010, and I'm optimistic the variety will hold up deep into midsummer.
