Seems Like Wrens are Everywhere

There's no doubt the Carolina Wrens had a successful breeding season this spring. It seems like there are now wrens everywhere! I've observed three birds for certain this week, and I wonder if I have four. This morning alone I was scolded by what at first blush seemed to be a treeful of Carolina wrens. Lord knows where the nest might have been, but the birds seem to consider the neighbor's Japanese Maple the core of their territory. And the family group may grow some more. I caught a wren checking out an old flower basket and also an old feeder carved out of a coconot. Are they thinking of that for a second nest? I would not mind that at all: I'd get a good look at it during breakfast and dinner! Wrens are a lot of fun for me and I especially appreciate their diligent exterminator services around the deck. Hopefully the "tree of wrens" will bear more fruit!
