Finch Family Group Chugs Along

The heat might be crazy (e.g. heat index of 105 yesterday at RDU airport, 15 of last 16 days 90 degrees or more) but the House Finches are nonplussed seed-eating machines through the heat of the day. This summer we have a tight family group with two apparent juveniles. (I can never tell them apart, so that's an semi-educated guess only.) And whenever the squirrels are away, the finches are in. As gluttonous and non-native as they are, I vastly prefer the finches to the squirrels. And it is still amazing to me that birds like this don't seem the least troubled by the same weather that is wiping us out. Onwards, Finches!
