Young Red Bellied Doing Fine

It sure looks like our most recent fledge debutant is doing quite nicely. This young Red Bellied Woodpecker hasn't been seen begging for so much as a scrap and appears quite competent on the suet feeders. But I note that this one looked less vulture-like when we first spotted it, so perhaps Junior was doing all its begging from within tree cover and only started a-feedering once it was time to fend for itself. I'm seeing this one fairly often, but of course the time will come when territories must be established and it well may be that Junior will be cast out and find some other home. We shall see what happens, and whether this young joker will get lucky enough to end up pounding his brains out on my house's guttering come next spring!
