Good Results With Suet Feeder

Last year I installed a new suet feeder advertised by Duncraft as being friendly to woodpeckers. The extended "tail" allows these birds to prop tails rather than cling to a suet basket without support. The results have been very satisfactory. The woodpeckers adjusted nicely to the feeder (some species more quickly than others), and even non-woodpeckers such as Bluebirds and Catbirds prefer this feeder to the older hanging basket. And, two birds can work the feeder at once. It's more expensive than the basket, but I think I've gotten my money's worth in terms of happy birds, and so far at least the feeder hasn't weathered too badly, but I can see replacing it as early as next year. Is there a downside? prepare to buy more suet! The same happier birds are now able to snarf down twice as much product. But that's a small price to pay, I think.
