I maintain a second feeder complex in a quiet corner of the back yard. The safflower seed feeder here has recently been draining at an unusual rate, and Monday night I determined to investigate the crime scene with the help of BirdCam. I expected to see evidence of raiding by squirrels who have been getting no easy sunflower seed rewards lately. Instead, I saw photo after photo of voracious House Finches. It seemed that every picture showed finches at all of the ports. Great gravy! Evidently their breeding season was a huge success, otherwise it is hard to account for this dramatic increase in seed consumption by the little gluttons. However, I am gratified that my "CrimeCam" didn't show me something more horrifying: squirrels eating safflower. Thanks, BirdCam!Wednesday, July 28, 2010
