Goldfinch Curiosities

Setting up a new feeder tree has been a fascinating experience, particularly in the realm of things Goldfinch. I spent quite some time near that feeder tree today while digging a flower bed, and noticed that there was considerable traffic at the tube feeder, all of it American Goldfinches. What is more, there were more Goldfinches there than had been typical of the feeders on the opposite side of the house. I even watched more Goldfinches flying in from other parts of the neighborhood. Clearly, something appealed to them about the new location. More sun? away from the House Finches? I cannot say. But I created an amazing Goldfinch magnet for myself. Somehow I attracted likely every bird within a quarter mile. It was an entertaining and colorful morning!
