Those Darn Goldfinches

Not long ago I roused myself to specially equip a new feeder station with a Megatube up to the task of handling a sudden influx of Goldfinches. Those finches had been long absent from the yard and I wanted to welcome them back...with a suitable bribe. The finicky creatures promptly vanished, or so I thought. This BirdCam photo shows at least three of them --- on a different feeder(!) They persist in ignoring the Megatube. As a matter of fact, there is a cardinal rule with the Goldfinches around here: whenever the BirdCam guy puts out something appealing to us--go do something else. They ignore fresh bags of nyger, they gang up on tiny tube feeders, they even vanish just as their plumage gets interesting. But Darn It, we love them all the same.
