One of the more exciting aspects of winter is that I can put out a wider range of foodstuffs and see birds' reactions to them. Why only winter? Some of the products I've put out just don't move in the warm parts of the year. Foremost among these is peanut butter. Very popular in January; untouched in June. I wonder if when it's colder the peanut butter has a more appealing texture. Birds do like to peck or stab at things and a viscous item may be too hard to work with. Well, whatever. It comes down in April and now that we're deep in November, the feeder is back up, with its protective anti-squirrel cage. I expect the smaller birds to be on this right away, and later arrivals (Yellow Rumped Warblers, say) to get excited not long afterward. Can't wait to see the photos!
