I confess it freely: I am one of the eight gazillion in the world who is a sucker for bluebirds. Can't help it. And I am as happy as can be these days with Eastern Bluebirds buzzing all around the back yard. I have a family group who's found all the suet places and are working those pretty hard nowadays. I'm sure they're doing damage to what's left of the insects on the wing, but the extra nutrition is clearly welcomed by these colorful characters. And adding to my delight is that I know they know about that new nestbox I put up for them: a female bluebird was seen perched on its roof yesterday. Just perhaps she was taking its measure as a place to raise young come springtime. If this be fall, I shall make the most of it. I have had bluebirds.
