In Conan Doyle's
Silver Blaze, the great detective calls the attention of a dull witted policeman to the "curious incident of the dog barking in the nighttime." The policeman protests "but the dog did nothing." Ah says Holmes, that was the curious incident. And here -- it's very unseasonably cold for the fifth straight day... and my feeders are basically full. A curious incident has taken place. Where are all of the coldm, hungry birds?? Indeed there are some... I see Cardinals during dinner time. But sunflower seed is not moving hardly at all. I am deeply perplexed. And there are no obvious suspects. Is there a better feeder station up the street? Am I overrun with hidden predators? Did the cold kill them? There is much to seek out in the next few days.

Hello! I recently stumbled upon your blog. Enjoyed it so much so I've bookmarked it! Recognized a lot of your feeders as I'm constantly browsing Duncraft's website. But I've never seen a feeding station quite like this! Is this a home-made creation? Or something you've bought somewhere? It looks very well done and appears to have lots of room for various feeders.
Hello Melissa! Thanks for visiting!
My #1 feeder station (shown in the photo) is a home made creation. It's built of galvanized pipe, of all things, which means I can expand it as needed.
The main shaft rests in a tube sunk in a concrete base so I can rotate it as needed to service feeders.
I've had as many as twelve feeders on it but I've backed some off to other feeder stations so that the birds are not too stressed by close proximity.
I may have to show the thing off in a post one day...
Very best,
David
I think you should (show it off)! It's a great creation! In fact, I've decided to see if my husband can built something similar. I've been very disappointed with the feeder stations I've seen. And this looks perfect! Especially since you can expand it over time! Kudos to you! :-)
