The Great Christmas snowstorm of 2010 has come and gone. It left over six inches here overnight (an exceptional snowfall for the Piedmont) and my thirteen active feeders were very busy all day! I refilled several of them by midday and was amazed by all of the traffic. Surprise guests were three Red Winged Blackbirds (no doubt the pickings at the nearby pond were poor). And I brought in the entire American Goldfinch group in our area---we counted twenty eight birds at a peak. Shown are two of them. Things stay very cold and icy for the next two days, so I am sure the crowds will be there again.
