My beloved continues to be very supportive of my ever-expanding bird "hobby," and for Christmas augmented our huge fleet of feeders (over 24 now!) with a snazzy hanging platform sold by the nice people at
Duncraft. This model is designed to be (a) weatherproof -- i.e. with a roof, (b) friendly to birds who have a hard time with perch posts, and (c) squirrel-proof. The timing couldn't be better as a big snowstorm threatens this very evening. As for the squirrel part, we shall see. So far they have been defeated by these tight grids. I hung the feeder this afternoon and to my amazement four different species investigated within twenty minutes... led, unexpectedly, by an American Goldfinch. So tomorrow...snow free sunflower eating will be had, and I get to enjoy some new perspectives. Fun!
