1. High bird traffic. Across seven days' worth of BirdCam photography between 12/27 and 1/14 I recorded 2,058 photos -- almost 300 per day,
2. Low squirrel traffic. The squirrels have a hard time pulling seed from beneath the double grid at the floor of the feeder. I had squirrels show up in only 88 photos (about 0.3% of the time).
3. Good species appeal. So far I've recorded 14 species using the feeder. Northern Cardinals, American Goldfinches, Tufted Titmice, Carolina Chickadees, and House Finches love the thing. It's much easier than perching! But also I've picked up Brown Headed Nuthatches, Carolina Wrens, a Purple Finch, Red Winged Blackbirds, and Pine Siskins. And whether they grabbed a seed or not, other visitors included Pine Warbler, Northern Mockingbird, Yellow Rumped Warbler and Eastern Bluebird.
I'm very pleased with results at this feeder. It's definitely an attractive alterative to the tubes, and it can accomodate a lot of birds at one time. I may even have to put up another at the opposite corner of the house! Shopping for a platform feeder? Give this one or something like it strong consideration.
