A Formidable Challenge

Two winters ago, when the Hermit Thrush first started visiting, it showed the most interest in our peanut butter feeder. But lately, that feeder has been protected by steel (to keep out the squirrels) and our bird wasn't anywhere near it. This week, the Thrush has apparently noticed the feeder and what it offers. But getting to it--that's going to be a challenge. To do the thing, the successful bird must perch on the cage and lean inside. But Hermit Thrushes, like all birds of their genus, is a crummy percher. Their legs are not that strong. But Hermie is persistent and a good learner, and it just may be that this clever character figures it all out and wins a tasty prize. I'm watching...and waiting...
