Great Backyard Bird Count 2011 Starts Today

Yes, dear friends, it is at last that long-awaited weekend cherished by scientifically-minded backyard bird watchers! Today begins the four-day Great Backyard Bird Count organized by the Cornell Lab of Ornithology, Audubon, and Bird Studies Canada. And even as I write this over 1,215 checklists have already been submitted. I will, of course, add my own soon. I've blocked out five viewing windows across what is already a busy weekend, and I am hoping to count at all three of my feeder stations, allowing me to capture species like this furtive White Throated Sparrow. I doubt I'll get as high as 40 species here, but miracles sometimes happen. I'll be dedicating the next several days' posts here to what I come up with. Can't wait for count #1, this afternoon!
