Great Backyard Bird Count Wraps Up

As these things often do, our Great Backyard Bird Count 2011 ended on a strong note here in the land of Cary BirdCam. Three hours of observations starting early in the day yielded me four additional species: Turkey Vulture (2 birds), Red Tailed Hawk (1 bird), Ring Billed Gull (5) and a breathtaking 32 Fish Crows, flying over the house in the last ten minutes of my last viewing shift! I have yet to tote up the data, but it looks like I have 31 species picked up in a total of 9 hours here. Not too bad for this suburban island during unseasonably warm weather. And it was a heck of a lot of fun! So tomorrow I compile the checklists and send them to Cornell Lab to join what I hope is a record setting effort. I'll post the final tallies here tomorrow.
