Last Weeks of Juncos

As the weather ever-so-slowly warms and the days lengthen, I'm more conscious that it won't be long before we lose our eponymous winter species: the Snowbird (a.k.a. junco) These little ones make the cold winter bearable by just being out there. They scratch and peck the smallest bits hoping one will be edible. It's an absolute hoot to see a small mob of them working below one of the feeder trees. Somehow they make a living from the sloppy eating going on above. I give them maybe four weeks before they're on their way back to the mountains. Until then, the show will go on!
