No Kinglets This Year

For several years now I'd had the pleasure of watching Ruby Crowned Kinglets visit the feeders (suet in particular) but it's pretty clear now that these little devils have passed me by for the winter of 2010-11. This species winters in the sun belt, so the chances of getting one here in the cold times are usually very good. I haven't the faintest idea what went wrong this time. Perhaps the birds that came to this place are in the Aviary Eternal; perhaps they found a more congenial wintering ground. That's the way these things go. Some years one does well with a species, some years...it's a disappointment. We shall buck up and wait for the next winter and just perhaps we will experience the Return of the Kinglet.
