Somewhere in the past year I read that American Robins have an affinity for humans' gardening activities because they think we (humans) are pigs (the animal.) And today I was the pig, and the Robins appreciated every minute. I dug out six wheel barrow loads of decayed mulch and seed hulls and moved them to a section of the yard dedicated to compost. The Robins seized on that little hill all afternoon, easily finding earthworms and grubs. It may be a little disconcerting to feel that the Robins see one as a large hog, but I don't take it personally. The Robins had a good day. I got a job done. Not a bad outcome.

Following The Pig
