One of the more interesting discoveries I've made with the BirdCam this month is that Pine Siskins will gobble up Nyjer seed as enthusiastically as American Goldfinches. I've had some chances to train the BirdCam on my Nyjer socks (actually out of pure delight that the finicky goldfinches are using them!) and found Siskins almost as often as Goldfinches. As these little pigs are irruptive, I'm not fully acquainted with their habits. So it's a discovery to me. One suspects my west coast friends will laugh and tell me this species will eat any seed they can walk away from. Although they have not show a great propensity to take safflower. So I have one more place to spot the Siskins... just in time for them to migrate out.
