Bushes, Berries and Birds

Each May the Leatherleaf Mahonias (none of them long for this world...) are descended upon by most of the resident thrushes. The berries must be intoxicatingly good as these fruits are quickly and thoroughly taken out. Among the leaders in this activity: Gray Catbirds, Northern Mockingbirds, American Robins, and Northern Cardinals. Every day now I am seeing Catbirds bolting in and out of the shrubbery, making many round trips in a short time. I only see a few berries left this late in the month. In a few days...surely that will be over and the birds will be back to their assault on suet, insects, and whatever else they can find.
