A Complete Wren Nest

Curiosity killed the cat, as goes the old saying. It nearly killed me, too, as I mounted the step ladder to get a look inside the Bird Bottle to see what the Carolina Wrens have been up to. The photo reveals a classic Wren nest. Thick stuff on the outside, softer bits on the inside. They appear to have put together a complete structure, but as yet haven't done the deal. That may come in a day or two, whenever Momma is good and ready. I think they've chosen well. The bottle is pretty much in shade all day and will be relatively cool inside. Warm enough to nurture a chick, cool enough not to roast the little devil. The curiosity is sated, for now. We must watch and wait for the results.
