Finches and More Finches

September has developed as a fairly quiet month, especially now as some species have left the stage (e.g. catbirds), as some have dispersed their young (e.g. bluebirds), and as some have been feeding someplace else (e.g. Pine Warblers). But others, well, have been their own three ring circus. And of course, that would primarily be the "Hollywood" House Finches. They are swarming -- I counted no less than twenty of them at one feeder station today. And they are at all three of my feeder stations. They're a gregarious species, and this crowd must include friends from across the subdivision, or so it seems. That means plenty of hungry little monsters this winter. Yikes!
