Nyjer Seed Back in Vogue

Probably the most maddening thing about our American Goldfinches, after their prodigious appetite, is their fickle attitude towards nyjer seed. I've put this stuff out now and then. Sometimes it gets ignored (which was the case most of last year) and other times... it disappears very quickly. Such is the case now. That sock you are looking at was purchased only the Saturday before last, and it won't last much longer. If my observations over the weekend are any indicator, the entire goldfinch family group has taken a mighty shine to the micro-seeds. Whether this is a current food fad or a reaction to the piggish House Finches dominating all of the sunflower seed tubes I cannot ascertain. So for now, I'll play their game and keep the nyjer in stock. Eventually they'll skunk me...hopefully not soon!
