As the summer colors fade away, drabness even washes over the birdlife and we are left with some unspectacular hues in the back yard. One can get an occasional blip of red from the woodpeckers, but browns, blacks and whites are the rule. What are our exceptions? Northern Cardinals, yes, although their reds are not as dazzling as they'll be in deep winter. I think we'll crown the yellow superstars of the moment: our Pine Warblers. Those yellows are still vivid and they mostly stand out (except as the leaves change!) The only drawback to our monarchy is that the warblers don't visit a great deal. But for now, they're the pick of the pack: our Fall Kings of Color.
