The Deicer is In Place

While the northeast battles an incredible October snowstorm, we have met our own winter marker. At last we have reached what looks to be our first freeze. And that means one thing for the stewards of Cary BirdCam: setting up the deicer for the birdbaths! And so I trudged out back with my gear, a length of outdoor-grade extension cord, and the special heated bath and set up same to get the water stabilized before the overnight temperature drop. This stuff will be out there until March. And the birds will have a reliable supply of ice-free water, kept at a steady 34F (or higher). Now, time for some carols!
