Really Slowing Down

Yesterday's post noted that our fickle goldfinches had flown the coop. This appears correlated with a sharp decline in sunflower seed consumption. But across the board, we're moving less product this month. Peanuts go slowly; safflower is down; suet has practically gone untouched. The great fall slowdown is upon us. Every year this happens, only in 2011 it is behind schedule. Some of this is due, perhaps, to a bounteous natural harvest. Some to the dispersal of young from family groups. Some to death. Who knows exactly what goes on out there. What is sure is we'll see low levels of consumption for a little while longer, perhaps deep into November. What a break for me!
