Winter Lineup: American Robin

(2nd in a series on winter birds at Cary BirdCam).  The American Robin is a species we find all year here, but the robins we see in the cold months aren't at all the birds we know in summer.  Our winter robins came from the northeast, and they behave a little differently.  Most noticeably, they aren't very noticeable.  I'll see robins now and then, and sometimes at the suet feeder (or trying to obtain suet!) but for the most part they're someplace else.  Our east I see them in enormous flocks, maximizing the chance to find food.  And perhaps that's true here.  Somewhere nearby is a large flock of robins, perhaps, whose members sometimes stop by yards like ours.  Really too bad.  They provide enormous entertainment and seem so much like family that their absence is greatly missed, even when it isn't spring.
