Winter Lineup: Carolina Chickadee

The very liveliest of our perennials is the Carolina Chickadee.  Ours have rebounded from a terrible 2010 and a fine family group is now active at all of the feeder stations.  They are terribly feisty: even after years of exposure to the feeders and to me, they still object strenously to my presence in no uncertain terms...all year.  Even in the deep of winter when they have very little to defend on a meaningful basis, I am scolded pretty much for existing.  That's small beer considering the delights that come from watching chickadees sail in, grab a seed, and bolt into the cover so that they can beat the heck out of the seed hulls.  These little ones are a great winter pleasure!
