Great Backyard Bird Count Coming Soon

The big count is coming soon!  That is, the Great Backyard Bird Count sponsored by The Cornell Lab of Ornithology.  The dates for 2012 are February 17 through 20, less than three weeks from now.  If you have been a counter, please enlist again! if not, there's no time like the present to collect data from your own backyard, or any location in your area.  Even as little as 15 minutes will be useful in understanding populations of birds across North America. 

I have been a participant since 2009 and have enjoyed gathering data systematically about what species passed through the property.  I'm hoping to be a little more efficient and also to perhaps take in a secondary location for added fun.  We'll see how the weekend rolls.  I'm definitely not the only counter in my community, but I think I gathered my fair share of the information in Cary last year!  As before, I'll share my counts here.  And compare them with past results.  Can't wait!
