A Year of Changed Tastes, Or Something

The first fifth of the year (January 1 through the equinox more-or-less today) has been a rather different one than last year with respect to food consumption.  The big stories: safflower seed is down (by 38%) and sunflower seed is down (by 33%) compared with the same time period last year.  One difference has been a deficit of gluttonous finches.  In fact I've seen only a few since mid February.  And I have better squirrel control than I did a year ago: they aren't getting in as easily.  And while we have a steady run of safflower-loving cardinals and Mourning Doves, they're evidently not overloading.  And I would not be surprised if they aren't exceeding last winter's traffic.  Well, this is certainly good for the bottom line.  The savings in sunflower seed represents just a bit more than one 40# sack while the safflower savings equates to just past half a sack of that product.  Net gain: $55.  I'll take it!  thanks to some changing tastes...
