It's Almost Goldfinch Time

High summer steadily nears, and with it, the last act in the nesting season drama.  It is almost time for the goldfinches to get serious about advancing the species.  Goldfinches are the last of our area passerines to set up nests.  They evidently are designed to time with the peak of asters, providing maximum seed potential when nestlings need feeding.  Oddly, they get their breeding plumage early in the game and then...eat.  Eat and wait for nature to call.  That call should come in within a few weeks.
