Nice Family Group

Having a "scratch ground" this year (formerly occupied by overgrown juniper) has made it a great deal easier to watch the doings of the ground pounders.  In particular I have made a little study of the White Throated Sparrows who visit us each winter.  It appears we have a family group of five birds, or at least that's as many as I have seen at one time.  There is an alpha: the one that seems bravest and is first to enter the scratch ground in the open.  Two of them are fairly timid, hardly ever leaving the cover of nearby small shrubs.  They stay in close proximity, covering an area of a few square yards at most.  Lots of fun to watch!  And I have the rest of winter to catch the views.
