Watching for Hermie
For four years we enjoyed the visits of a Hermit Thrush at the suet feeder. And each spring I wondered if this strangely feeder-fascinated bird would come back. I've suspected I have been dealing with one and the same bird simply because each year it became more adept at pulling out suet (these thrushes are poor at clinging). But birds age and pass on. Eventually "Hermie" will stop appearing. The big question is when. I am looking out in hopes of a fifth winter. That first viewing could come at any time. Where are you, old friend?
