Arrivals Noted On Schedule

As expected, the first Ruby Throated Hummingbirds have arrived on North American shores after their winter hiatus closer to the equator.  Observers in Louisiana, Florida and Mississippi reported their first birds on Friday 2/21.  Over the next five weeks they will make their way farther inland.  Most of these birds are destined for Canadian summers; most will be males setting up their territories.  I don't expect to see a hummingbird for at least a month if not more and my regular guests usually show up in May.  I'm just delighted that the great migration is well underway.  Nicer times are coming!
