At Least I Saw It

For a number of years I have seen proof of Yellow Bellied Sapsuckers on the property in the form of characteristic drill holes in a Sweetgum (shown).  But I had never actually seen a bird, until today.  A male (I spotted the red field mark) casually worked a few trees.  As you would imagine, no camera was at hand and said bird was gone before I could get off a shot.  Hence I cannot prove I saw the bird.  But for my own mental well being, seeing is believing and I can confidently assert that at least this winter, a Yellow Bellied was here.  Some day I will get a photo!
