One of the handsomest birds of the Piedmont is also one of the hardest for me to photograph with the Birdcam. That would be the Eastern Towhee. It is not a question of availability: Towhees are around me all year. I often see them skulking under bushes, probing leaf letter, or in breeding season perched atop shrubs or midlevel tree branches making their distinctive "Drink your Tea-eee" calls. But as far as the feeder stations go, the Towhees are on their own unpredictable schedule. I rarely catch them at the platform feeders or even during ground level efforts in the yard, and with one exception, I've only succeeded in the months of March and April. Clearly, they find enough food elsewhere and perhaps pop by the feeder stations now and then only when sufficiently curious or needful. So it is with considerable joy that I catch a glimpse of these shy characters with BirdCam.
