Almost the Right Idea

It is strange how the mind works. There I was, minding my own business, taking a breather from my labors on Monday, watching birds flying here and there. I started thinking how neat it would be if I could get aerial photographs of those birds with the BirdCam. And then the dots connected. Why, there is that Manual Mode I couldn't quite find a use for! And in minutes I had BirdCam in hand, set for focus at infinity, snapping off pictures. After surveying the results, I think there is something to this idea, but I'm not there quite yet. Even cropping tightly (on a turkey vulture, in this case) the absence of a zoom lens and the 2 megapixel maximum limit the quality of photographs. In other words, the birds have to be a whole lot closer than they were! Perhaps this will work best at the coast, where larger, slower waterfowl may make very attractive in-flight models. At least I have a starting point for further thought and experimentation.
