It took the entire span of the Easter season, which ended last night, for me to at last acquire my first BirdCam photographs of Ruby Throated Hummingbirds for 2009. I had my first sighting on Easter Sunday, and had spotted some birds earlier in the week, but my luck was bad at the BirdCam until yesterday. A female worked the southeast dish feeder hard all day, and if past years are a guide will no doubt dominate that feeder through the season. Happily, there are three others that are available for other Hummers, and in fact I have seen the southwest feeder in use (on Monday). What a delight to see these adorably feisty jewels at my home! I am looking forward to up to four months in their company, with many wonderful photos to accompany the experience.
