Now and then I find it rewarding to set the BirdCam up in unusual places to see what might be going on, birdwise. This photo, taken Sunday, revealed Carolina Wren activity behind our gas grill. The Wrens are the vanguard of our "organic" exterminator unit on and around the deck, probing for spiders and insects that might be lurking in the shadows. I'm well aware of considerable skulker activity, like this, about the deck, along the foundations of the house, and in the gardens. So there are dozens of great opportunities to exploit for enjoyable photographs of birds that might not spend much time at feeders. The trick is patience. Often these opportunity zones don't get a great deal of traffic so leaving the BirdCam up for two or three days may be necessary to capture a meaningful body of evidence. Think about possibilities you may have!
