The Mourning Dove Hang-Around

For as long as I've seen Mourning Doves at the feeders, I have seen them loll around to a greater extent than any other bird.  Very few of the songbirds will allow themselves to attract attention at the stations: the Mourning Doves don't seem to care.  This is especially notable in the morning, when I might find one or two simply perching, and late afternoon, when as many as three might be perched on the hanging feeder doing nothing in particular.

It is so much like the listless activity at the local coffee bars that I even imagine the doves are themselves groggy patrons waiting for some caffeinesque buzz to kick in.  But that surely can't be what's at work.  Nor is that doves are, well, not hasty at moving about.   I have not yet found any material on Mourning Doves to explain this behavior.  But I will continue to observe and see what clues can be gathered.  Cup ' Seed for you, doves?
