The Missing Flower
Strange doings: it is nearly June and our most dependable hummingbird flower is AWOL. The Trumpet Vine is thick in our back yard and has overrun two mature Loblolly Pines, and does its utmost to conquer every corner of the property. And it usually flowers by mid May. But in 2012, I have seen nothing. This is quite the surprise, and comes in a year when plants were running two weeks ahead of schedule due to a mild winter. So what gives? I can only hope the plants are finicky and needing to gather a bit more energy. Fortunately, they flower over a rather long period, so perhaps we will have a more amazing high summer. Nevertheless, I am looking up every day, just a bit concerned...
